K.W.Doggett Fine Paper proudly achieved our FSC® Chain of Custody Certificate in 2006. Since then we have actively sought to increase our FSC Paper Range, and we can now boast that over 85% of our papers feature the highly regarded Forest Stewardship Council’s seal of approval. We also achieved the award for ‘Responsible Procurement’ at the Forest Stewardship Council Seventh Annual Excellence Awards 2013.

What is FSC?
The Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) is an independent, not for profit, membership-based organisation founded in 1993. It provides a process that allows companies adhering to these standards to be recognised in the community and by their end customers.

The FSC develops standards for responsible forestry management through a process of consultation. It accredits organisations, (like SCS Global Services) who offer certification to forest managers meeting these standards or to manufacturers and others (like KWD) who use FSC certified material to produce wood-based products. It also manages a trademark system that allows companies and organisations meeting FSC standards to gain recognition in their respective market places.

FSC work to promote responsible forestry, conserve biological diversity and protect old growth forests.

  • Through consultative processes, FSC sets international standards for responsible forest management and practices.
  • The FSC trademark provides international recognition to organisations that support the growth of responsible forest management.
  • FSC undertakes marketing programs and information services that contribute to the mission of promoting responsible forestry worldwide.

Difference between FSC and PEFC
Essentially they both stand for the same thing: Responsible forest management worldwide. Yet, they’re backed by two different parties. FSC is backed by environmental and social interest groups, such as WWF and Greenpeace. PEFC is governed and backed by the forest industry and a board of trustees.

  • FSC have the same rules globally
  • PEFC is more flexible and tailored to local priorities and conditions

FSC Product Labelling
There are strict requirements for the use of product labelling. This is to ensure consistent and correct use of FSC labels on products. To use FSC labels and or wording (i.e. FSC, FSC certified) on your product/publication, the printer must be FSC Certified. If the paper product is an FSC certified paper, but is not being printed by an FSC Certified printer, the use of FSC labels and or wording cannot be used.

If an environmental tagline for your publication is still desired, please contact your K.W.Doggett Fine Paper specialist.

If you have any concerns about an FSC logo or invoice, please call us.

Become FSC Certified
To obtain the FSC certification, you will need to be evaluated by an approved auditor. An FSC certifier will look at your company, the size, scope and complexity of your operation and then determine how long an audit will take and its associated costs. The certifiers will then provide a questionnaire or step guide to help assess your level of progress in meeting the FSC standards.

To find an approved auditor please visit the FSC Australia Website. Please note the button ‘Become Certified’ is located at the bottom of the homepage.
