Fetch Blog

A lot of work goes into our paper. But even more goes onto it.

Paper's the blank canvas, the starting point. It's the creativity of the people with whom we work that brings it to life. The Fetch Blog is a little snap shot of that work. Here we show you our latest paper samplers, cool work our clients have done, KWD news including environmental updates, wild paper tales and any up and coming paper, design and print events. We'll be uploading new stuff every week so send us your best work.

Condiment - Adventures in Food and Form

For the most part, food is nature at its most familiar. While views on its production and presentation become ever more complex and conflicted, it is nevertheless us that set the parameters.

As its masters we think: food is here to serve us. But quite possibly: we are here to serve food.  Reversing the roles and giving up control is an eye-opening exercise. After all it is we who are dependent on food, and not food that is dependent on us.

One key attribute to the good servant is enthusiasm and enthusiasm is most often found in the amateur. The true amateur, of which E.C. Large was proudly an advocate, is defined as “one who loves”.

Beyond our own lack of expertise, although that is true too, it is this simple sentiment that has informed  Condiment – Adventures in Food and Form. Equal parts wonder and worship, each page of this publication is not as much about what we do know as what we don’t.

Chris Barton and Jessica Brent

Issue 01 of Condiment features work and contributions from: Yumiko Utsu, Martino Gamper, Ready For The House, Darren Sylvester, Anders Jander, Per Englund, Ellen Birrell, E.C. Large, ffiXXed, Taiyo Onorato and Nico Krebs, Amanda Maxwell, Shauna T., Melanie Bonajo, Christopher LG Hill and Postalco.

85 Steps

The Garden House is situated in an irreplaceable location at 85 Rathdowne Street, Carlton. It combines the best of city living with the stunning Carlton Gardens.

To capture these unique surroundings, Piccolo Developments sent renowned Australian photographer, Martain Mishkulnig on an artistic journey around the area. His brief was to capture the beauty the lies within close walking distance of the Garden House.

With each click of the camera, the number of steps from the site was recorded, demonstating the richness to be found in every direction.

This book illustrates his journey, starting with his first shot at 85 steps.

Rooftop Cinema

The Rooftop Cinema is again open for summer until March 27th. For the 2009/2010 season the artwork plays on genre movie posters from the 60s and 70s - be it gumshoe detectives, Vampires or Sci-fi heroes and heroines. The campaign is aged like the posters it was inspired by, with scuffs and torn edges, and the warm, pulpy texture of Envirocare.

The tickets, session timetable and all the information you need to know is printed on the lovely Envirocare 100% Recycled paper.

We encourage you all to get on down (or up) to the rooftop in Melbourne on February 16th when we will be showing Visual Acoustics, The Modernism of Julius Shulman, sit down lunch and dinner menua documentary about the late architectural photographer whose work epitomised the beauty of the Southern Californian modernist movement. The show will commence at dusk with drinks upon the roof from 7pm. As seats are limited please let your Paper Rep know in advance if you wish to join us on the night. Cheers and hope to see you there, Catherine.

2010 Calendar January - June

In an environmentally sustainable world, part of our responsibility is to select paper that demonstrates a commitment to preserving the earth’s most precious resources. Designed by the AGDA (Australian Graphic Design Association) Queensland Student Council, the K.W.Doggett Fine Paper 2010 calendar pays homage to the sustainable use of paper while exploring the endless creative possibilities in which paper can be transformed. The calendar months show how you can tear, scrunch, rip, fold, twist and shred paper to make innovative artwork and design while recycling. Or better still, make it into something you can keep such as 12 quirky, naughty, lovable dogs.
