Our 2012 calendar has been unleashed and this time around, it was Adelaide’s turn to get in on the action.
The dedicated bunch behind this year's calendar is the Graduate Diploma/Master of Visual Art and Design students from the University of South Australia's matchstudio. We love working on the calendar as it gives us an opportunity to be inspired by young and emerging talent and UniSA is no exception. This is the first year we've had it designed and printed in South Australia, after 25 years of producing a calendar, 18 years of which we've dedicated solely to the student brief.
Each year we keep the brief simple. We give the students free
reign, ask them to create something original and funny - providing
the theme is about dogs of course! The concept for 2012 which the students chose is ´doggie
magazines´, straight from the K.W.Doggett Fine Paper news stand. Each
month is based on a real magazine title or theme. Featured on each exciting cover are pooches from all walks of life. As each month passes, you'll
be impressed with the talent and imagination shown with titles ranging from fashion news to
features, from music to politics, from travel to superhero's. Some of
the titles you'll read about are Dogue aka Vogue, K'Nine Health aka Men's Health, and
Whine aka Time.
Printed 4 colour process plus one special fluoro yellow, the cover is on Envirocare 100% Recycled with the title featuring a black gloss foil. The internal pages are a mix of HannoArt Silk A2+ and Envirocare 100% Recycled, which have a few surprise embellishments too.
Thank you to all the students and their mentors David Blaiklock, Illustration Design Course Coordinator and Jane Andrew, Studio Director of matchstudio for a mammoth effort. The students we had the pleasure of working with (in no particular
order) are: Philippa Kruger; Candice Papagiannis, King Qui; Darrel Tembak,
Fanglei Liu; Tania Erzinger; Gabriella Player; Davide Cavuoto; Alexander Timonin; Leilani Every; Ryan Turner. A big thanks also needs
to go to Rita Siow from AGDA - the catalyst for this year’s partnership.
Your fine paper specialist will be around shortly to drop in your 2012 calendar.
On Thursday 1 December we held a launch party in South Australia for our print and design clients, and to thank the students and mentors. If you want to see some pics from the night, visit our Facebook page!
