Accreditations and Logos

Using an Environmental Logo can be an easy way to demonstrate your environmentally responsible paper choice. To find the logos that relate to your project simply select your chosen stocks from the Paper Range, then scroll to the bottom of the product profile and download the suite of logos.

K.W.Doggett Fine Paper logos are independently verified and meet or exceed legal requirements. Internationally recognised certifications such as FSC are listed below for reference only. Request to use these logos should be made through an FSC certified printer or to your K.W.Doggett Fine Paper Representative.

Recycled
Manufactured with recovered fibre. Recycled fibres have been extracted from existing paper products, to be used in the manufacture of further paper products. Recycled paper can be 100% recycled or mixed with virgin fibre to improve consistency.

PCW - Post Consumer Waste
PCW fibre is made from re-processing or de-inking paper that has been used by a consumer. The use of recycled fibre reduces the pressure on forest land and protects its ability to absorb carbon for longer. By using recycled cardboard and paper you are helping to reduce waste that would otherwise go to landfill.

Pre Consumer Waste
Only uses waste from the mill itself, such as mill broke and offcuts. The fibre has not been used by an end consumer.

Carbon Neutral
A product and/or operation that have had their carbon dioxide and greenhouse gas emissions;
1) Calculated
2) Reduced where possible and
3) 'Offset' through credits that fund renewable, emission free energy products. The Kyoto Protocol mandates that these offsets must be "real, verifiable and additional to what would have otherwise occurred".

ISO 14001 EMS - International Organisation for Standardisation
Paper is manufactured by a mill that is accredited with ISO 14001 EMS, the international standard for organising and achieving continual improvement in environmental management systems. This standard reviews the total manufacturing process and seeks continual improvement in aspects such as energy efficiency, waste reduction and pollution control.
Responsible Forestry Practices
Fibre used in the production of paper that shows this symbol, is sourced from pulp suppliers who practice responsible forestry techniques and/or use paper from managed plantation forests.
TCF - Totally Chlorine Free
No chlorine gases are used in the bleaching process. TCF cannot apply to recycled papers because the source fibre cannot be determined.

ECF - Elemental Chlorine Free
ECF indicates a paper that is made without the use of Elemental Chlorine. ECF pulp is produced with chlorine compounds, a bleaching alternative that serves to reduce harmful by-products.

PCF - Process Chlorine Free
Paper that contains post consumer recycled fibre that was processed without the use of any additional chlorine, or chlorine compounds.

Australian Made
Stocks that display this symbol are manufactured in Australia.

FSC - Forest Stewardship Council
Pulp sourced from forests that have been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.  FSC works to promote responsible forestry, conserve biological diversity and protect old growth forests. FSC also includes a 'Chain Of Custody' system that tracks paper from the forest, all the way to finished material offering clients complete paper traceability.

PEFC - Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification
PEFC is a framework for auditing forestry operations and promoting sustainable forest management by actively reducing the effects on the environment.
Carbon Neutral
A product and/or operation that have had their carbon dioxide and greenhouse gas emissions;
1) Calculated
2) Reduced where possible and
3) 'Offset' through credits that fund renewable, emission free energy products. The Kyoto Protocol mandates that these offsets must be "real, verifiable and additional to what would have otherwise occurred".

This logo applies to Mohawk products only - Expression, Concept, Cambric and Enhance.

Windpower
Mohawk produce all their papers with the use of 100% wind-generated electricity. Wind energy is emission free and completely renewable.

Glossary of terms

Wood Free
Free from wood based impurities such as lignin, found in the plant structure by a chemical pulp process. This leaves only pure cellulose; an ideal substance to make paper.

EMAS - European-Eco Management and Audit Scheme
EMAS is a voluntary environmental management system that is based in Europe and is developed around EU regulations. This highly regarded scheme has been implemented at all Sappi European Mills.

VER's - Verifiable Emission Reduction Credits
VER's are used to offset any thermal energy emissions created during the paper manufacturing process. These credits fund renewable energy projects. The use of clean wind generated electricity and the offsetting of manufacturing emissions means that Mohawk can produce Concept, Expression, Cambric and Enhance paper as being Made Carbon Neutral.

Environmental Accreditation
A paper mill that has internationally recognised environmental standards and an ongoing commitment to the conservation of natural resources. The paper mill has established an environmental management system with standards in excess of legal requirements that operate in tandem with their product quality controls.

SFI - Sustainable Forestry Initiative
A set of guidelines that combine the perpetual growing and harvesting of trees with long-term protection of wildlife, plants, soil and water quality.

Chlorine Free
No chlorine gases are used in the bleaching process.

Grammages (GSM)
Refers to a metric measure of paper weight (grams per square metre) ie: 80gsm, 100gsm.
